Gaurav Sarjerao, a freelance cartoonist and animator based in Mumbai, became, at the age of twenty-four, the youngest cover cartoonist for Marmik, the only Marathi-language weekly magazine dedicated to political satire. Now aged twenty-nine, he chairs the Cartoonists Combine, a network that supports artists in Maharashtra. As founder of the animation studio Braven, he tackles themes such as secularism, rationalism and social justice. In 2025, he launched the travelling exhibition VivekResha, bringing together twenty-five leading Indian cartoonists to promote scientific thinking. Through his printed and animated drawings, he sees himself as a key figure in democratic dialogue and freedom of expression in India.
