A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts and the University of the Arts in Havana, the Cuban cartoonist José Alberto Rodríguez Avila, known as Avilarte, has been drawing for the press since 2019. He regularly contributes to media outlets and platforms such as DDT Palante, Cubadebate, Cartoon Movement, Alma Plus TV and the newspaper Escambray. His work has earned him several awards, including the International Visual Arts Prize in Cabo San Lucas (Mexico) and the Grand Prix at the Vita Brevis Contemporary Art Fair.
