Jean-Michel Renault is no novice when it comes to cartooning; in 1973, at the invitation of René Goscinny, he joined the team at Pilote magazine, where he produced numerous full-page caricatures and cover illustrations under his first name until he left in 1979. After a spell in the publishing world (Éditions du Pélican), Jean-Michel returned to his pencils and brushes in 1988 to produce several comic books, notably Censure et caricatures, a reference work on censorship applied to press cartoons from Gutenberg right up to the controversies surrounding the Muhammad cartoons in the early 2000s. His cartoons have appeared in numerous media outlets and newspapers: TF1, RFO, Midi Libre, Tennis Magazine, Le Journal de Lucky Luke, Pilote, The Sunday Times Magazine, Le Nouveau Sud, Stratégie, Télé 7 jours, Sport Caraïbe, Montpellier Magazine, L’Équipe TV, L’Hebdi, Barricade, Fecocorico, etc. He is currently collaborating with the satirical weekly L’Agglorieuse (Montpellier).
