DiploCité, in collaboration with the Fondation Lucien Paye – Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, invites you to an exceptional evening exploring the challenges facing press freedom in today’s rapidly evolving political and digital landscape.

On this occasion, Cartooning for Peace is participating in the roundtable discussion « Voices under Pressure: Freedom of Press in a Changing World » and presents its report on the situation of threatened press cartoonists (2023–2025), prepared in collaboration with Cartoonists Rights and in partnership with the Freedom Cartoonists foundation, FORHUMColumbia Global Freedom of Expression – University of Columbia, and Reporters Without Borders.

The publication of this report is part of a project supported by the Global Media Defence Fund (GMDF) of UNESCO and by the CFC, aimed at documenting and highlighting the threats faced by press cartoonists.

This panel will offer a multi-layered discussion on the current state of press freedom around the world. Speakers will share perspectives from international institutions, journalism, and civil society, highlighting the challenges faced by media professionals and the mechanisms that exist to protect freedom of expression.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers and reflect on the future of journalism and freedom of expression in an increasingly complex global environment.

Featured Speakers:

  • Julia Haas, Adviser to the OSCE Representative on the Freedom of Media

  • Andrea Cairola, Programme Specialist at the Division for Freedom of Expression, Democracy and Peace of the Communication and Information Sector at UNESCO
