The shifting of the world – Different perspectives from photographers and press cartoonists

Editorial published on October 30, 2025

Faced with the staggering reality of a world in turmoil, regressing and causing concern, the power of images, through the impression they leave on our memories, helps us to realise that we are living through a pivotal and historic moment. That is why Cartooning for Peace, in collaboration with Emmanuelle Hascoët and with the support of Amnesty International, has just published this book with La Martinière, paying tribute to the talent and courage of press photographers and cartoonists. With a preface by Pierre Haski, president of Reporters Without Borders, it offers a variety of perspectives on international conflicts, the instability of democracy, the undermining of human rights and the acceleration of global warming. The dialogue between photojournalism and press cartoons offers visual echoes and converging perspectives that reveal the universality and complementarity of these two forms of visual journalism, which have been weakened by fake news, artificial intelligence and the many threats to press freedom. These are important issues to remember on the eve of 2 November, the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists.
