Gaza: for the right to inform

Editorial published on September 01, 2025

Cartooning for Peace, which defends freedom of information on a daily basis, is joining the international media campaign, a world first launched on 1 September on the initiative of Reporters Without Borders and Avaaz. ‘At the rate journalists are being killed in Gaza by the Israeli army, there will soon be no one left to inform you…’.

In just 23 months, more than 220 journalists have been killed in Gaza by Israeli army fire. This is the highest number ever recorded by RSF in a conflict.

This campaign, which has mobilised hundreds of media outlets around the world, demands protection for journalists in Gaza as they do their job, an end to impunity for crimes against reporters, and the opening of the enclave to the international press. Eight days before the opening of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, it calls for ‘strong action by the international community… to stop the Israeli army’s crimes against Palestinian journalists’.
