When repression makes it impossible to take out a camera, when words fail in the face of extreme violence, drawing remains.
The exhibition ‘Cartooning for Myanmar’, created by Info Birmanie, Visual Rebellion and Cartooning for Peace, with the support of Fondemos, La Ville de Paris, and Reporters without borders, will be on display on the railings of the Buttes-Chaumont park, opposite 45 Simon Bolivar Avenue, from 20 September to 20 October 2025.
This initiative brings together the work of seven Burmese cartoonists in exile (Thum Yum, Michi Emma, Lun Yé, T.H.A, BB, Friday and Atun) who wish to bear witness to the repression in Myanmar, accompanied by cartoons created by members of the Cartooning for Peace network.
It is part of a programme to support and highlight the work of Burmese cartoonists who have been in exile since the coup, co-created by Cartooning for Peace, Info Birmanie, and Visual Rebellion Myanmar, with the support of La Ville de Paris, Fondemos and Reporters without borders. For nine months, these Burmese press cartoonists were supported in their press cartooning practice by members of the Cartooning for Peace network.
In addition to the free exhibition at the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, rue Botzaris, a discussion on ‘Cartooning for Myanmar’ will be held as part of the Festival Le Monde on saturday 20 September at 5.30 p.m. in the foyer of the Le Monde group’s auditorium. This meeting will bring together a Burmese cartoonist who participated in the programme, experts from the region and the media, whom the public will be able to question.
