Cartooning for Peace presents a new educational tool to facilitate discussions on the issues at the heart of artificial intelligence deployment, always with humour and… intelligence!
The spectacular success of the ChatGPT conversational robot, launched at the end of 2022, has revealed a glimpse of the possibilities offered by artificial intelligence (AI): for better or for worse? Awareness of the need to establish a framework for the development of AI seems to be growing rapidly. This technological advance raises vast ethical, legal, political, economic and environmental questions… Human questions, in short, since it is disrupting all spheres of our lives. In 2024, Cartooning for Peace published the book ‘Artificial Intelligence: a (r)evolution?!’ by Gallimard.

A FREE ONLINE EDUCATIONAL TOOL FOR ALL EDUCATION PROFESSIONALS
By offering an overview of artificial intelligence, its challenges and potential consequences for society – particularly in terms of human rights – Cartooning for Peace aims to encourage a critical and civic-minded approach to the ethical development and use of AI.
This educational tool consists of several complementary elements
An exhibition in poster form (to be printed in A3 format), consisting of fourteen press cartoons from around the world, illustrating various themes related to human rights: ‘AI, help please?’, ‘True or false?’, ‘My data, my choice!’, ‘Robots at work!’, ‘Out of inspiration?’, The planet is overheating!”
A document containing activity sheets to be distributed directly to young people to explore the themes covered in greater depth (additional press cartoons, key figures, information, activities, quizzes, etc.).
A document intended for education professionals to help them get started with the educational tool. This project is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the BNP Paribas Foundation and the French Development Agency.
Videos developed with a group of young people mobilised by the Francas des Pyrénées Orientales (66) in which young people talk about their use of AI and the potential risks associated with it.
WORKSHOP-DEBATE
Work on the educational tool can then lead to meetings with press cartoonists in the form of workshop-debates.
