On 11 and 12 October 2024, 15 press cartoonists from all over France met at the Fondation Jean Jaurès, in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, for a training course in education through press cartoons run by Cartooning for Peace.

The course had several objectives:

  • to enable press cartoonists to discover the educational initiatives set up by Cartooning for Peace in schools, out-of-school settings and in prisons to raise awareness of the profession of press cartoonist and its role in society, as well as the concept of freedom of expression,
  • to acquire mediation and facilitation techniques to share their experience with the public,
  • to build an interactive workshop with educational objectives, using Cartooning for Peace’s teaching tools.

The training was based on exchanges and sharing of experiences between cartoonists. Several cartoonists already working with Cartooning for Peace on educational projects were present to share their experiences and suggest practical activities to be carried out with different audiences.

The two days were rich in debates, discoveries and exchanges of mediation practices, and enabled 15 press cartoonists to strengthen their teaching skills for workshop-debates.
