On October 17th, the Mosul – the main stronghold of the Islamic State in Iraq – fight started.
Even if for several days, Iraqi soldiers, Kurdish Pershmerga fighters and the international coalition have been attacking the jihadist positions, the battle is not yet won. The jihadist are far less numerous but they are highly trained. They have increased the suicide attacks and they are using civilians as human shields.
The humanitarian situation is alarming and the people of Mosul are fleeing the city to seek refuge in the overcrowded refugee camps.
