After Harvey in Texas last week, it is now Irma’s turn on the West Indies … And we are already expecting for the next days José in the Caribbean and Katia in the Gulf of Mexico, where a powerful earthquake of magnitude 8.2 struck off on September 7h and a tsunami risk exists.
More than just pretty names for these storms and hurricanes that hit this region with unprecedented violence: 60 deaths in Texas, which has experienced historic flooding. Irma, whose power is devastating, has already caused at least 12 victims and dramatic damage (95% of Saint-Martin is destroyed).
Is it the fault of global warming? Scientists are still cautious in their analyzes, but the fact remains that the abnormally high temperature of the ocean helps the formation of hurricanes and that the link between global warming and natural disasters is scientifically proven.
