On Thursday June 23, the British voted for leaving the European Union (EU) by 51,9%, with a turnout of 72,2%. The Prime Minister David Cameron (Conservative Party), who had promised in 2013 to hold such a referendum if he were elected, campaigned for the “remain” side. In view of the results, he announced his resignation and the Pound fell to an historically low ebb.
How will Scotland and Northern Ireland react? The EU fears a “domino effect” and some far right parties in the Netherlands, Italy and France have already called for a similar referendum to be held in their countries…
