Born in the Netherlands, Willem arrived in France in 1967. He participated to the beginnings of Hara-Kiri then in Charlie Hebdo’s one. He draws for L’Écho des Savanes, Passage, Politis, Phosphore, Métal hurlant, Rouge, Siné Massacre, Télérama and he is known for his scathing cartoons.He won the Grand Prix de l’humour vache 1996 in The International fair for humor and press cartoons.
In February, 2013, Willem receives the Grand Prix d’Angoulême for his entire work.
