As part of its program “Cartooning for Peace and Democracy’ supported by the European union, Cartooning for Peace is partnering with the movie festival Ciné Droit Libre and the French institute to propose a serie of events and workshops in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), from the 7th to the 16th of December.
During the whole festival, editorial cartoonists from Burkina are sketching live in front of the public at the French Institute, where an exhibition is also on display. An exceptional opportunity to meet and discuss with great Burkinabe cartoonists such as Glez, Marto, Timpous, Sam, Main 2 Dieu, and Zoetaba,
Ciné Droit Libre is moreover organizing an exclusive screening of the documentary film “Caricaturistes – Fantassins de la démocratie” (Cartoonists – Foot Soldiers of Democracy) by Stéphanie Valloatto. It is followed by a debate between two of the greatest cartoonists from West Africa ; Glez (Burkina Faso) and Zohoré (Côte d’Ivoire).
As a festival’s closing, cartoonists are creating from the 12th a big fresco on one of the wall of the French Institute.
As part of its program “Cartooning for Peace and Democracy”, which aims to promote a culture of peace and democracy through editorial cartoons, Cartooning for Peace is organizing a training session for cartoonists and Ciné Droit Libre’s clubs coordinators – 7 and 8 December.
Meetings and workshops between Burkinabe youth and cartoonists are also planned, while inmates of Ouagadougou prison have the opportunity to watch “Caricaturistes – Fantassins de la démocratie”, meet cartoonists and create with them a big fresco.
Exhibition and meetings are to be continued in Ciné Droit Libre’s clubs starting from 2018.
