A project about press cartoonists and the dangers they face to make us laugh &#8211; and think.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Imagine publishing one of your cartoons on Twitter, and a few hours later being stopped and arrested by the police while you are driving home with your family.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Imagine being at home, on a regular evening, and receiving a notification on social media that proceedings against you are starting for three cartoons you published.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"\u00a7we-want-to-tell-the-stories-of-cartoonists-in-danger\" class=\"header-anchor-widget offset-top\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"header-anchor-widget-button-container\">\n<div class=\"header-anchor-widget-button\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Imagined and designed by Italian cartoonist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cartooningforpeace.org\/en\/dessinateurs\/emanuele-del-rosso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Emanuele del Rosso<\/a> (Cartooning for Peace member) and Federica Testi, the project tells the story of cartoonists in danger.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #f6f6f6;\">f<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"\u00a7we-want-to-tell-the-stories-of-cartoonists-in-danger\" class=\"header-anchor-widget offset-top\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"header-anchor-widget-button-container\">\n<div class=\"header-anchor-widget-button\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">We all come across great editorial cartoons, reading a magazine, on social media, watching TV. But we seldom think about the author of the cartoon that made us laugh, or think, or even made us angry.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #f6f6f6;\">f<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"header-anchor-widget-button\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many cartoonists face economic hardship, harassment, threats and even physical violence for the job they do. Some are killed. And they often are not considered equals to journalists.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #f6f6f6;\">f<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #f6f6f6;\">f<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"\u00a7we-want-to-tell-the-stories-of-cartoonists-in-danger\" class=\"header-anchor-widget offset-top\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"header-anchor-widget-button-container\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #f6f6f6;\">f<\/span><\/div>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/toughlaugh.substack.com\/p\/welcome-to-tough-laugh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cTough Laugh\u201d<\/a> tells the stories of these cartoonists,<\/strong>\u00a0in two ways:<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<blockquote>\n<h3><strong>&#x1f399; With a podcast &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/show\/0B3tEVNuiaVMj54GhU6gv5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LISTEN HERE<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A series of episodes produced and published in partnership with Cartooning for Peace, within the project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cartooningforpeace.org\/en\/projetssoutien\/renforcement-de-laide-juridique-aux-dessinateurs-de-presse-a-lere-du-numerique-2022-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cEnhancing legal support to press cartoonists in the digital age\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The episodes \u2014 each in a different language: English, Spanish, French \u2014 tackle the stories of criminalised editorial cartoonists, digging into the challenges that come with publishing cartoons, and how the law has been, and is, (mis)used to censor them.
