United States: the crude presidential campaign

Editorial published on October 14, 2016

The second Hilary Clinton/Donald Trump debate on 9 October will go down in the annals of US political history. Crude and macho personal attacks were the order of the day, to the detriment of the real issues.

Following the release, by The Washington Post, of a video in which Trump is openly sexist and indecent, the Pandora’s Box has been flung open: on 12 October, several women accused the candidate of sexual assault; meanwhile, the Republican Party is close to imploding.

Is the outcome of this election now in the hands of women?
