Maarten was born in The Netherlands in 1964. He was really good at drawing while he was a kid and he decided to cling to this talent. He took art lessons at the secondary school and four years at the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam, in order to become an independent cartoonist.

Since 1991, he worked for several Dutch daily’s, mostly regional, such as the Haagsche Courant, Leidsch Dagblad and Almere Dichtbij. He draws international cartoons for the Dutch site Joop and Cartoon Movement.

Maarten also performs live stand-up cartooning in both English and Dutch, during meetings and seminars. And he gives workshops cartooning wherever it is needed.

He made illustrations for a few children’s books. His gags with Kas (only in Dutch) appear in Knocky Magazine.
